continuous rolled plate glass
The technique for the production of rolled plate glass was developed further after the First World War. Previously, molten glass mass was poured onto a table and flattened out. Emil Bicheroux developed a new method, which forced the molten glass mass from its container through two rollers, and onto a rollway leading directly to an annealing furnace.
Polished plate glass was mainly used for large window panes, such as shop windows. Ground and polished, it was the best type of glass available.
