A few years ago,
the Government Buildings Agency
placed secondary screens behind existing window panes in the Rijksmuseum for Ethnology (Volkenkunde), in order to improve insulation, security and solar reflection. In this way, the historic windows and their original detailing could be retained. In practice, however, problems arose. The Government Buildings Agency therefore commissioned Van Ruysdael to design a new glazing set, which would meet the ever stricter requirements without the use of secondary screens.
